Concept for a Stool
This stool is inspired by the structural engineering of Vladimir Shukhov, namely his towers incorporating hyperpoloid geometry. Shukhov was a russian engineer born in the 1850s.
Physical Model Fabrication
I printed the plastic parts on an FDM printer in PLA, painted and sanded them, then applied a metal-wax product and buffed to a dull shine. I scaled the model to fit wooden dowels that I bought at the hardware store, which I cut to length and applied a dark stain to. I used real leather on the seat and cut and glued it to a printed plastic ‘cushion’ to give it the right shape.
I made this model before I designed the footrest, so it isn’t included.
Footrest Iterations
I designed the rest of the stool earlier and unfortunately didn’t document that process
